hi folks I'm Bob Shrum physical
therapist throughout Hynek physical
therapist we have the most famous
physical therapist on the internet you
know opinion of course Bob got Sam the
skeleton here today with us - Brad
mother believe it they wouldn't talk
about seven signs you have a groin
injury we like to you know a lot of
times people start getting pain or
wondering what what the cause of it is
and we're gonna go over those signs but
we're also going to show you how to wrap
it if you have a groin injury sure yeah
and this is a device a brace I guess I
know a wrap that works quite well right
you could improvise with it but I'll
show you it's actually made for probably
use an ace wrap right do the same thing
you just wall the same pathway I mention
that but if you are new to our Channel
please take a second to subscribe to us
Sam already has
we provide videos how to stay healthy
fit pain-free and we upload everyday
also you can find us everywhere on
social media now we're just started on
Instagram official Bob and Brad join us
we're gonna have some cool stuff on
there
yeah it's common we got some stuff there
already but we're gonna go also Bob and
Brad I have a little preview Brad we're
gonna hit a million subscribers probably
in January we're gonna have a huge
giveaway oh really we got to do a thank
you give away a million giveaways well I
mean we're gonna do a giveaway but not
maybe a million but it was sure in
appreciation soldier so now when you
have a groin injury a lot of times you
know I used to hear that as a kid I was
like you know what did I tear down there
right or what was is a growing that yeah
right kind of one of those words that
you no one really knows what is but we
all know where it hurts yeah it's kind
of a garbage can term but generally when
in the sports world or in the athletic
world or in the medicine world when they
see a groin they mean one of the muscles
that Ducks the hip you want to show what
reduction is Brad right so if your leg
gets goes this direction towards the
midline or towards the other leg those
are your groin muscles that are
contracting if you get that motion the
opposite ones go this way that's your
adductor there's a different set of
muscles the and this set of muscles
pulls it in and you show how when you go
out that way it actually stretches the
ad
good point out this is if you're doing
an activity that you're going right to
left these muscles get used an
incredibly amount if you're going in a
straight line not as much but they're
still obviously pretty act well one of
the common things would be the soccer
kick Brad sure you're kicking this way
that's all hip adductors right um you
know in football just you're doing a lot
of lateral movement to it certainly also
if you're riding a horse you know your
legs are spread apart that ends at all
and and those muscles are tightening to
help hold you onto the horse you don't
fall off so these are some of the
muscles here we don't have them exact
anatomically but we got the adductor
Magnus the adductor brevis the adductor
longus and that pectineus a pectineus
right so we've got we got them laid here
I'll blend in together here but Brad's
gonna show you how what you know when
you bring the leg out how that muscle
actually stretches all right so here
we'll go we've got some nice kinesio
tape that stretches and you could see
the muffy that muscle stretching yep so
if that if these muscles contract they
pull that leg in towards the center and
then we go about and again ranch today
without this myself we worry for this is
lateral movement so anytime you go side
to side they're working a little extra
hard so you're a lot of times a groin
injury you know it's quite often from an
athletic event sure and and the number
one sign first off that people often say
they hear they hear a popping sound or
maybe even just like a snapping sound
right and that can be the muscle tearing
actually and in fact the tear can happen
in the muscle itself or it can happen
where the muscle narrows up and becomes
a tendon and attaches to the bone right
it could have you know the tear can
happen actually where it attaches to the
ball sure or where the muscle attaches
to the tendon I mean any three of those
spots all right or maybe a little bit of
each here we've got the pubic bone
attaches there and then along the femur
right inside part of the femur so
there's basically the second thing
you're gonna feel you know the second
sign that you look for is some amount of
pain if it's extreme pain you know and
if you actually ruptured it so
a rupture would be it actually lets
loose somewhere sure
or it could be down here the muscle
could be tear for all the way across the
muscle belly or the fibers rip so if you
have extreme pain and you have 100% tear
you're also gonna the muscle is gonna be
weak like you can't even push the legs
together I mean it's just not gonna have
anything you're gonna try and nothing
happens yeah you could like take a ball
or pillow put it between your legs and
you're gonna squeeze and that's using
almost all a doctor or groin muscles and
if you do that and that immediate starts
pain in that area it's a good sign
either in Janette possibly tore it to
what degree you know it's hard to say
particularly if you're not from where
there but well if you're not able to
move at all it's probably rupture if
it's pretty bad pain moderate pain this
is number three it's a partial tear
anyway if you tour anywhere from 25 to
95% of the muscle that's a partial tear
okay and and if you have like minor pain
you know like it hurts kind of when you
move it but it doesn't hurt when you
don't move it that's probably less than
25% of a tear sure so that one's not
gonna hurt as much sure it's gonna
obviously heal a lot quicker too you bet
so so we're already up to that was
already number one through five Brad are
number four because we went through the
three types of pain that you might have
sure number five is bruising if the more
bruising you have you're gonna find
bruising along the inner thigh right and
after a while sometimes it kind of
migrates down the leg because it's it's
settling down right it's from when the
muscle actually tears it bleeds inside
your leg in that we call it you know
ecchymosis or that bruising comes out it
can be blue a little purplish and that's
coming out to the surface in the body
you know eventually reabsorbs that I
call it dead blood and yeah like more
bruising you have generally the worst
injury is that's good that's almost with
most injuries sure you can kind of look
at that as a kind of an indicator
you're gonna often have swelling on the
inner thigh and it's gonna be tender I
mean very you can find what you can find
often where the muscle tear is right and
we often recommend we did do a video on
how to treat a groin injury and we did
talk about doing
massage you want to cross-fiber massage
over those muscles kolpak obviously is
pretty gym you know yeah always the
standard right or treating this and
that's exactly what you want to start
for any part of the body Brandon already
alluded to this really the the big
number one way to determine if it's a
groin injury is to
you could try to squeeze your legs
together you could take a ball and
squeeze it together and it's going to
immediately give you pain in the inner
thigh and that's a pretty good sign that
you have a groin injury so now we're
doing it seated but probably you know
our standing may be a better test
because your body is in a little bit
different position so the muscles
contract especially if you injured it in
the upright position which you probably
did probably running or in an activity
like that so now with the wrap what
you're gonna want to do a you're trying
to one get a little compression over the
muscle it's just gonna feel better and
about two you're trying to prevent the
leg from going out because that's where
it stretches and it hurts yes we need a
little support yeah you want to heal so
brace ability has this groin strain
application it's a hip and groin wrap
you can actually use this for a hip
flexor injury too sure you wrap it a
little bit differently than that
instance but what we're gonna do we're
gonna start with down here and hopefully
this will show off okay and your face
that way about me all right I'll hold
that for you there around there I'm
coming around and this is right here I
wanna get that this is where it's
pulling it over it's stopping that hip
from coming out right so it's real
simple
and you could again could do this with
an ace wrap you could wrap around a
couple times race and then come around
this works a little better this has got
some rubber or silicone probably grippy
this so it sticks to your skin in it
yeah this works really easy actually
it's I think I got no I got a ride
thinking I had it wrong but there we go
yeah so you can see it might not show
real good but you know Bob doesn't wear
white pants to work so he got to go to
work after this but yeah I think you can
see what's going on this is sense you
can clear yeah so again it's stopping it
from pulling out this way and it's
giving compression sure you actually
have a friend that you're gonna have try
this right yeah his son is a field goal
kicker sure and he's having problem on
football season's over with but he's
still feeling pain yeah it's gonna give
him a good option and there's no
negative effect if I can walk around
with this I imagine you could put it
under your clothes oh yeah and then you
could also I don't know if you could do
a sport with this I think you actually
could I mean it's very we're gonna find
out you know we're gonna find out itself
he plays hockey too
oh he does yeah you can put this on for
this hockey yeah sure so all right
thanks everybody for watching enjoy
you
