Checking coolant or antifreeze for beginners

this is going to be a video on checking

coolant or any freeze for beginners not

for you experienced people it's going to

be short straight right to the point if

you have any questions please feel free

to comment one thing you need to know on

any vehicle is if you're gonna check

antifreeze do not go near it if the

vehicle is warm I'm gonna repeat this

again if it's warm or hot do not check

any Amy fries or corn on a vehicle the

best time to do this is first thing in

the morning before you go to work if you

have a job you can tell them hinting at

something here because I know a

particular person is gonna be watching

this anyway you want to make sure the

engine is completely cold up or cool I

should say you don't want to check your

antifreeze five or ten minutes over half

an hour after you get home from work not

the best time you want to do it first

thing in the morning or after the car

has been sitting for like oh shoot I'd

say at least five six hours at least

just to be on the safe side because

there is pressure behind this and it is

extremely extremely hot and you will get

burnt however now don't let that deter

you don't let that scare you as you can

see from the picture here it says do not

remove one hut and remove slowly yes you

want to remove it slowly whether it's

cool or it's hot it doesn't matter just

make sure and please I'm going to keep

repeating this you're going to hear it a

lot do not do this when the vehicle is

warm or hot it needs to be cold I'm

going to cover different vehicles here

to give you an idea of what I'm talking

about as far as checking your coolant

checking your reservoir if any of this

is confusing leave me a message I'm more

than happy to explain it I come across

hundreds of different vehicles all the

time and work on them all the time if

your particular vehicle looks strange or

is confusing to you you let me know what

it is I will create a vehicle yeah yeah

vehicle response

video for you so I'll take care of that

for you don't worry about it okay this

happens to be a saturn s-series a

vehicle like I said I'm gonna be

covering different ones if you notice

according to the picture here it says do

not remove hut remove slowly you're

gonna hear this a lot throughout the V

video unfortunately but I can't stress

this enough you want to be very very

careful when you're doing this again

this is on a saturn s-series sometimes

you can't find the markings on the side

of the bottles and you need to look for

markings it'll tell you whether it's

full or it's empty it's real simple this

one doesn't have a radiator cap this is

the only way to fill it and check your

levels now if you notice by the blue

arrow there's a little dash right there

if your vehicle is completely cold right

where that arrow is you see a little

dash that's where your maximum cold

level should be now that's on a saturn

s-series now we're gonna cover a

different vehicle now this vehicle

happens be a Toyota pickup truck this

has a reservoir and a radiator cap

filled now what you're gonna need to do

is push down on this radiator cap while

you're turning it it may go hard it

might go easy if the coolant level is

full as you see here then you can put

the cap back on and worry about the

coolant reservoir if not add your

coolant which we'll cover later on and

put your cap back on here's your coolant

reservoir now your coolant reservoir is

your overflow also if there's too much

coolant in the radiator or go in for

this now you want to look for markings

on the side of this as you can see

there's an F with a little dash that

means it's full this is the proper level

where it needs to be it's real simple

you just pull the cap off and you

basically fill it until it gets to that

little dash mark to the full mark now

this vehicle happens to be a Dodge

Stratus the red arrow indicates where

you want to push down on the radiator

cap and turn it slowly again you want to

make sure you top your level off if

everything's okay where the red arrow is

in the coolant full then put your

radiator cap back on tighten it down and

now you

wanna check your coolant reservoir level

highlighted by the blue arrow real

simple and that'll have a fill mark as

well now if you notice here highlighted

by the blue arrow there's a line it says

cold max filled this is where you're

going to be adding your coolant to the

maximum line you don't want to go over

it's real simple this vehicle happens to

be a Chevy Blazer highlighted by the

blue arrow this one also has a radiator

cap and it also has a reservoir real

simple to do you turn it counter

clockwise in order to remove the cap but

you have to push down on it in order to

get it off now if you open your cap and

you can see no coolant in there then

obviously you have to add coolant and

you're going to need to top this off and

then you're going to put your radiator

cap on afterwards after you have coolant

coming out at the top of it hopefully

not all over the place and all over the

it's real simple now the Chevy Blazer is

a little bit different than other

vehicles if you notice by the red arrow

it says check hot now what that means is

after you've topped your cooling off

while your vehicle is cold and you put

your cap back on you're going to bring

the vehicle up to temperature let it

warm up and then you're gonna check your

engine coolant highlighted by the blue

arrow here and remove that cap again do

not check your coolant level in the

radiator while the vehicle is hot you're

only checking the level in the reservoir

well it is hot now I know it's very hard

to see here but the blue arrow actually

shows your little dash or your little

line if you notice it says full hot I

know it's hard to make out but this is

where you're going to check it when it's

warm that's how you do a Chevy Blazer

coolant level check now if you're going

to be adding coolant to a vehicle the

best thing you can do is get yourself a

little funnel just like this remove your

radiator cap you put your funnel on and

you add your antifreeze it's as simple

as that you can use this funnel and the

coolant reservoir to just make sure you

get a small enough funnel and ordered

this now a lot of people do not want to

deal with big and bulky containers when

it comes to any fries yes I included a

little eye candy and I bet nobody even

noticed the antifreeze that she's

holding I bet that's the last thing

y'all noticed a gallon of antifreeze it

typically comes in a gallon container

well wait just a little over eight

pounds or eight and a half pounds I

should say and a lot of people have

difficulty with that and that's fine you

can get smaller containers the thing to

keep in mind though is if you get a

smaller container it's going to be more

expensive however it is easier to deal

with an easier to fill now if you're

concerned about the environment you can

always get a low tox any freeze or

coolant for your vehicle it is safer for

the environment and it won't hurt

wildlife or dogs or cats or anything

like that it may be slightly more

expensive but it is safer now a lot of

people are probably asking well this is

my first time doing it and if you go to

an auto parts store or you go anywhere

that sells any freeze you're gonna go

what the heck do I get I am so confused

and you will be there are so many

different kinds of antifreeze it's not

funny the best thing you can do is get a

product like this if you notice it says

any color any freeze all makes all

models it's already pre diluted what

that means is you don't have to mix it

you just open a cap you pour it in it's

that simple

and it's real easy to do when in doubt

open up an owner's manual look at your

owner's manual and it will tell you how

to put your coolant in maybe hopefully

it does or it will actually tell you

where to check your coolant levels at

what the level should be at and what the

recommended coolant should be if you

don't want to do that you want to take

the lazy way out you could get a product

just like this where it's just perfect

you just add it and you're done it's

that simple again this is for beginners

not you people that actually know how to

do this this will help a lot of people

out who have never checked their range

or the coolant before at least hopefully

it will if you have any problems let me
