a

NOUN PHRASE in English || The most detailed and informative lesson on NOUN PHRASES

hello to all my beautiful people out

there this is your friend ashish and i'm

back away the another interesting lesson

and today in this lesson we are going to

learn what is a noun phrase what is a

noun phrase how does it look like how to

use it in a sentence what different

positions it takes in a sentence we will

learn everything about it

this lesson is gonna be very informative

very detailed make sure you watch it

till the end

let's try so before we understand what

is a noun phrase let us understand what

is a freeze a phrase is nothing but a

group of words a phrase is a group of

words that does not have the subject

verb combination

it simply means it cannot have both the

subject and the verb all right so it is

a group of words that does not have the

subject verb combination now let us

understand what is a noun phrase as the

name goes a noun phrase is a phrase that

acts or works as a noun in a sentence

that so that's all what a noun phrase is

it's a group of words it's a phrase that

works as a noun in a sentence that is

why we call it a noun phrase now let us

understand how to form a noun phrase a

noun phrase is formed using a noun and

words that modify it we call them more

efforts so basically a noun phrase is

formed using a noun and some words that

modifier that give information about

them now so there are three ways to form

a noun phrase number one using P

modifiers the second way to form a noun

phrases using post modifiers words that

come after the noun and modify it and

the third and last way to make a noun

phrase is using both pre modifiers and

post modifiers guys let us start with

noun phrases using pre modifiers it's

very important that we understand what

comes in pre modifiers so in pre

modifiers we had three things

determiners numbers and adjectives what

comes in determiners let's understand

this so we have four things in

determiners number one articles ay and

ax so you can form noun phrases using

article

and ah a book an Apple the Taj Mahal

right the second thing we have is

possessive adjectives these are my your

has her there are so you can also form

noun phrases using possessive adjectives

my car your friend

his mother your father right and so on

the thirteen determiners we have is

distributive adjectives here we have

this that these tools so you can use

these words to form a noun face this guy

that goal

these boys those girls right so you can

form noun phrases using distributive

adjectives as well the last and

determiners we have is quantifiers

quantifiers are the words that quantify

an hour that give information about the

quantity of a now some of the

quantifiers we have here are some many

of you the few a lot of several these

are quantifiers right and these can be

used to form a noun phrase like a lot of

people several students many girls so

you can make noun phrases using

quantifiers as well so this was

determiners the second is numbers right

both cardinal and ordinal you can make

noun phrases using numbers right like

two boys five men the first match right

the second exam and the third thing in

pre modifiers is adjectives right words

that describe a noun that gives

information about a noun like stupid

stupid friends right a beautiful girl so

in pre modifiers we have three things

determiners numbers and adjectives now a

couple of things you need to keep in

mind while using p modifiers with a noun

phrase number one we can't use two or

more types of determiners together you

simply can't do that if you want to use

two or more types of determinants

together simultaneously you can't do

that so you can't say my this car is

awesome you either say my

car is awesome or this car is awesome

you can't use two types of determiners

to modify a noun to have a noun phrase

you simply can't do that so avoid doing

it number two if the noun in the noun

phrase is a singular countable noun that

means a noun which is one in number

singular and can be counted you have to

modify it with a determiner if you don't

do it that's incorrect your sentence

will be incorrect you can't do that

right let me give you an example so you

can't say I have beautiful car because

car is a singular countable now so

that'd be incorrect if you said I have

beautiful car right because car is a

singular countable noun

you need to use a determiner before car

right so I'll say I have a beautiful car

I have this beautiful car I have that

beautiful car right but I have to use

terminal to modify it the third thing is

if you wish to use two or more types of

pre modifiers in a noun phrase right if

you wish to use two or more types of P

modifiers in a noun phrase you can do

that but always follow the following

structure first comes the determiner

then comes the number right both

cardinal and ordinal whatever the number

you want to use and after that we have

the objective followed by the now right

always follow this structure you can't

say to these good-looking boys that's

incorrect right first the determiner

then the number then the objective then

the knob so I'll say these two

good-looking boys I can't say

good-looking these two boys that is

incorrect I will say these two

good-looking boys first comes the

determiner these that number two then

adjective good-looking then noun bodies

now let us look at noun phrases using

post modifiers in post modifiers we have

four things prepositional phrases

zerrin phrases infinitive phrases and

the last is relative clauses let us

start with a prepositional phrase a girl

with no tantrum 'he's a girl with no

tent

so girl is my noun with no Tantrums is

my prepositional phrase coming after the

noun girl modifying it right giving

information about the noun girl right a

girl with no Tantrums I love a girl with

no tensions right a girl with no

tantrums is the best girl

something like that right so it's a noun

phrase working as a noun in a sentence a

girl with no Tantrums

is the best girl right so this whole

thing a girl with no tantrums is the

noun right is the subject here a girl

with no Tantrums is the best girl and

with no Tantrums is my prepositional

phrase that is modifying the noun girl

all right let's take one more example

the person in the black shirt the person

in the black shirt so in the black shirt

is my prepositional phrase coming after

the noun person modifying it giving

information about it the person in the

black shirt so this whole thing is my

noun phrase working as a noun in a

sentence let's make a sentence using

this the person in the black shirt is my

friend so it's working as the subject of

this sentence right this is working as a

noun which is working as a subject of

this sentence now let us look at ziering

phrases zerrin phrases are the phrases a

group of words that start with as Aaron

and ing form of a verb that works as a

noun alright so as Aaron phrase comes

after a noun to modify it to give more

information about it let me give you

some examples the man standing next to

you the man standing next to you

standing next to you is my Zarin fries

giving information about the noun men

coming after it the men standing next to

you so standing next to you is my Zarin

phrase giving information about the noun

men and this whole phrase the men

standing next to you is my noun phrase

working as a noun so you can use it as

the subject of a sentence you can say

the man standing next to you

lives close to my house or is my friend

right the man standing next to you is my

friend let's take one more example the

girl talking

to run the girl talking too long is my

Zarin freezy of coming after the noun

girl giving information about it so the

girl talking to Ron is my noun phrase

right walking is a noun and talking to

Ron is as Aaron fries that's coming

after the noun girl giving information

about it right the girl talking to Ron

is my sister is my friend the girl

talking to Ron is my friend right so the

girl talking to Ron is working as a noun

and in the sentence it's working as the

subject of the sentence the next we have

is an infinitive phrase and infinitive

is nothing but two plus first form of

the world that acts as a noun in a

sentence all right so we also use

infinitive phrases to modify a noun to

form a noun phrase let me give you some

examples students to teach English

students to teach English so to teach

English is my infinitive phrase there is

giving information about the noun

students okay let's make a sentence out

of it I do not have students to teach

English which students to teach English

so to teach English is my infinitive

phrase giving information about the noun

students I do not have students to teach

English right

so students to teach English is my noun

phrase to teach English is my infinitive

phrase that's giving information about

the noun students and this whole thing

students to teach English is my noun

phrase working as a noun I don't have

what students to teach English simple

let's look at the next example clothes

to wear clothes to wear clothes isn't on

here right - where is my infinitive

phrase giving information about the noun

clothes I don't have clothes to wear I

don't have what clothes to wear so

clothes is a noun - where is an

infinitive phrase giving information

about the noun clots coming after it

right giving information about the noun

clothes so cloths to wear is a noun

phrase right cloths is followed by an

infinite

the phrase to wear and this whole thing

is my noun phrase the last thing we have

in a post modifier is a relative clause

alright so we also use a relative clause

to modify a noun and to form a noun

phrase let me give you some examples the

man who gave me some money so who gave

me some money is my relative Clause

starting with the relative pronoun who

so this clause is giving information

about the noun men right and this whole

thing is my noun phrase the man who gave

me some money it's giving us some

information but it cannot stand alone as

a sentence right it's a noun it's a part

of a sentence so if you want to make a

sentence using it you can do that I can

say the man who gave me some money

died last night the man who gave me some

money so who gave me some money is my

relative clause coming after the noun

men giving information about it and this

whole thing the man who gave me some

money is my noun phrase working as a

noun right

it's not a sentence please understand

this it's not a sentence within this

phrase we have a clause who gave me some

money but this whole thing the man who

gave me some money is working as a noun

it's a noun phrase so if you want to

make a sentence out of it you can easily

do that let's alright let's take one

more example the book that you gifted me

last week the book that you gifted me

last week so that you gifted me last

week is my relative clause coming after

the noun book giving information about

it

right so the book that you gifted me

last week is a noun phrase working as a

noun

now if you want to make a sentence out

of it you can easily do that let's do it

I still have the book that you gifted me

last week or the book that you gifted me

last week was awesome

alright so that's how you can make a

sentence using a noun phrase now if you

guys don't know what is the relative

clause I've already made a lesson on

that you can go and watch that lesson

I'll give you the link in description

the third way of making a noun phrase is

using both pre modifiers and post

modifiers let's take some examples the

talking to Ron the girl talking too long

so girl is the noun here right dies a

determiner primorye fire and talking to

Ron is a Zarin phrase that's coming

after the noun girl so die is a pre

modifier here and talking to Ron is a

post modifier alright let's take one

more example a tall guy who can fight so

guys the noun here are and tall are pre

modifiers and who can fight is a

relative clause that's coming after the

noun guy right that's post modifier so

there are three ways to form a noun

phrase using pre modifiers that we have

already seen using post modifiers that

we have already seen and using both pre

and post modifiers that we just have

seen now let us understand the position

of a noun phrase a noun phrase can take

four positions number one as the subject

of a sentence number two as the object

of a sentence number three as the object

of a preposition and number four as the

subject complement now let us take some

examples and understand this these boys

are my friends these boys are my friends

so these boys is my noun phrase all

right working as the subject of the

sentence these boys these is a

determiner boys's a noun right these

boys these boys are my friend these boys

is a noun phrase working as the subject

of the sentence second example I love

your younger sister

I love whom your younger sister so your

younger sister is my noun phrase walking

is the object of the verb love I love

whom your younger sister so your younger

sister is my noun phrase working as the

object of the verb love next example she

is living in a big house she is living

in a big house so our big house is my

noun phrase working as the object of the

preposition in she is living in our big

house so a big house is my noun phrase

working as the object of the preposition

in a big house

let's take the next example Nate is my

favorite fighter nate is my favorite

fighter so my favorite fighter is my

noun phrase as you can see my is a

determiner favorite is an objective

fighter is a now right so my favorite

fighter is my noun phrase it is working

as the subject complement giving

information about the subject Nate

now if you guys are thinking what is a

subject complement let me tell you what

is a subject complement a subject

complement is nothing but our word or

maybe a good four words that either

renames the subject or modifies it so my

favorite fighter is giving a new name to

the subject Nate Nate is equals to my

favorite fighter I already have a lesson

on subject complement guys if you want
